How the PDF to Text works
Upload your PDF.
Text from every page is extracted automatically via PDF.js — there's no option to select specific pages, all pages are always included.
Copy the text with the Copy Text button, or download it as a .txt file.
Page breaks are marked with "--- Page N ---" separators in the output.
Tips & tricks
- There's no page-range selector — this always extracts every page. To extract only certain pages, run Extract PDF Pages first to create a smaller file, then run this tool on that.
- The output textarea shows "--- Page N ---" markers between pages, which you can find-and-replace out if you need continuous plain text.
- If the note says "No text found," the PDF is almost certainly a scanned image — use the OCR PDF tool instead to generate a text layer first.
- Processing runs entirely in your browser via PDF.js — no upload.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work on scanned PDFs?
Scanned PDFs are images — they have no embedded text for this tool to extract. For scanned documents, use the OCR PDF tool which runs optical character recognition to generate a text layer first.
Will the extracted text preserve the original layout?
Text is extracted in reading order with page-break markers, but column and layout structure isn't preserved — multi-column PDFs will have their columns' text interleaved in extraction order, not kept side-by-side.
Can I extract text from only specific pages?
No — every page is always extracted at once. There's no page-range or page-filter option; to get text from just part of a document, extract the relevant pages first with the Extract PDF Pages tool, then run this tool on the smaller file.
Is there a page limit?
No hard limit — all pages are extracted. For very large PDFs (100+ pages), extraction may take a few seconds since every page is rendered for text extraction.
Is my data safe when using the PDF to Text?
Completely safe. The PDF to Text processes everything locally in your browser. No input data, results, or usage information is ever transmitted to or stored on any server.
Can I use the PDF to Text on my phone or tablet?
Yes. The PDF to Text is fully responsive and works on all modern smartphones and tablets. No app download is required — open your mobile browser, navigate to the tool, and use it exactly as you would on a desktop.
How do I share the PDF to Text results?
Copy the result text or take a screenshot to share via message, email, or social media. The tool URL can also be bookmarked and shared directly — the PDF to Text works for anyone with a modern browser, no account required.
