The Merge tab lets you drag in multiple PDFs, reorder them, and download the combined file in seconds (free accounts: up to 3 files). The Split tab's "Extract Pages" button lets you enter a page range (such as 1–3 or 2, 5, 7–9) to pull those pages into one new PDF — it does not split a file into multiple separate documents (free accounts: source PDF up to 10 pages). All processing uses the pdf-lib library running entirely in your browser. Files never leave your device.
How the PDF Split & Merge works
To merge PDFs: click Add Files and upload multiple PDFs, drag to reorder in the list, then click Merge All PDFs. Free accounts can merge up to 3 files at once — Pro removes this limit.
To extract pages: switch to the Split PDF tab, upload one file, enter a page range (e.g. 1-3, 5, 7-10), and click Extract Pages. This produces one new PDF containing just those pages — it does not split the file into multiple separate documents.

Tips & tricks
- The "Split PDF" tab is functionally an extract-to-one-file tool, not a true multi-file splitter — it always produces a single output PDF with your specified pages, same as the site's separate Extract PDF Pages tool.
- Free accounts are capped at merging 3 files or extracting from a source PDF of 10 pages or fewer — both limits are lifted with Pro.
- Drag-and-drop reordering in Merge mode works on whole files in the list, not on individual pages inside a file.
- Merging does not combine bookmark structures or a table of contents — the output PDF is a plain page concatenation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does "Split" produce multiple separate PDF files, one per page?
No — despite the tool's name, the Split tab's button is actually labeled "Extract Pages" and produces exactly one new PDF containing the page range you specify. It works the same way as this site's separate Extract PDF Pages tool. If no range is entered, all pages are copied into the single output file.
Is there a free limit on merging or extracting?
Yes. Free accounts can merge up to 3 files at once, and can only extract pages from a source PDF that's 10 pages or fewer. Pro removes both limits.
Can I rearrange pages while merging multiple PDFs?
Yes. After adding files, drag and drop them in the file list to change the merge order. Whole files are reordered, not individual pages within a file.
What is the maximum file size for PDF merging?
Browser-side processing is limited by device memory. Files up to 50 MB each merge reliably on modern devices. For very large PDFs (100+ MB), use a desktop tool like Adobe Acrobat.
