Free Code to Image Converter
Updated September 2026
Convert code snippets to shareable PNG images with syntax-colored text and a choice of 4 editor themes — free online code-to-image tool.
Verified Capabilities
Dark, Light, Monokai, and GitHub themes recolor the code output to match their namesake editors.
Download PNG saves the image; Copy Image puts it directly on your clipboard (where supported).
Canvas resolution automatically scales with your device's pixel ratio for crisp text.
The 8-language dropdown exists in the UI but isn't wired to the highlighter — coloring is always generic JS-style regardless of the language chosen. No custom themes beyond the 4 listed, no window-style choice, and no watermark/logo option.
Developers need fast, accurate utilities that slot into their workflow without friction. The Code to Image provides exactly that — no installation, no account, no context-switching.

- Developers sharing code snippets on social media without formatting issues.
- Technical writers creating simple, clean code screenshots for blog posts.
- Anyone who wants a quick, no-signup way to turn a code snippet into a downloadable image.
Common uses and search terms
The Code to Image is frequently used for: code, image, screenshot, share, carbon. Whether you need a quick result or are working through a longer project, the tool handles all common variations without any configuration.
Accepted input formats
The Code to Image accepts any standard input for this utility type. Minified, pretty-printed, and partially-formatted inputs are all handled — the tool normalises whitespace and encoding before processing. Unicode strings, multi-byte characters, special symbols, and multi-line blocks are fully supported. Very large inputs (several megabytes) may take a few extra seconds on lower-powered devices; closing unused browser tabs can free up memory for better performance. Output follows the same format conventions used by standard command-line tools and IDE extensions for this operation type.

How the Code to Image works
Paste your code snippet into the editor.
Pick a color theme: Dark (VS Code), Light, Monokai, or GitHub.
The Language dropdown is for your own reference — it doesn't currently change the syntax highlighting (see FAQ).
Adjust background color, font size, and padding, then click Download PNG or Copy Image.
Tips & tricks
- The Language dropdown doesn't affect highlighting yet — for best-looking results with non-JS-family languages (like Python), expect keywords to render in the default text color rather than the accent color.
- The four themes are faithful to their editor namesakes for color choices, but the highlighter itself is a simple regex pattern, not a full language-aware tokenizer.
- Padding and font size are chosen from fixed presets (small/medium/large; 13/14/16/18px), not freely adjustable.
- Copy Image uses the clipboard API and needs a browser that supports ClipboardItem — if it silently does nothing, use Download PNG instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
What themes are available for code images?
Four themes: Dark (VS Code-style), Light, Monokai, and GitHub. Each recolors keywords, strings, numbers, function names, and comments to match that editor's palette.
Does the Language dropdown change the syntax highlighting?
Not currently — selecting a language in the dropdown doesn't change how the code is colored. Highlighting always uses a generic JavaScript-style keyword/string/number pattern regardless of the language selected. Comments are detected for both // and # styles either way, so Python-style comments still color correctly, but Python keywords (def, elif, etc.) won't be highlighted as keywords.
What is the output image resolution and format?
Output is a PNG image. The canvas automatically scales to your device's pixel ratio (devicePixelRatio), so on a retina/HiDPI screen the exported image is sharper without any extra setting to adjust.
Can I remove the macOS-style window chrome?
No — the traffic-light dots (red/yellow/green) are always drawn at the top of the image. There's no option to switch to a Windows-style title bar or remove the window chrome entirely.
Can I add a watermark or logo to the code image?
No — there's no watermark or logo feature. The image contains only the code, background, and window dots.
Is my data safe when using the Code to Image?
Completely safe. The Code to Image processes everything locally in your browser. No input data, results, or usage information is ever transmitted to or stored on any server.
Can I use the Code to Image output in commercial projects?
Yes. The Code to Image is a utility tool and its output carries no licensing restrictions. You are free to use results in any project, commercial or personal.
Does the Code to Image follow official standards?
Yes. The Code to Image is built to comply with the relevant industry standard or specification for this utility type. If you encounter an unexpected result, verify your input against the specification — edge cases outside the standard may produce undefined behaviour.
